Puppies and Kittens

When you are the new owner of a puppy or kitten, we recommend they be brought in right away for a complete physical examination with a veterinarian. Examining your new pet helps us to determine whether there is any cause for concern, and allows us to establish a health care plan that gets your new friend started on the right paw. Early health care for puppies and kittens includes:

  • Physical examination
  • Any necessary vaccines, often needed to be completed in multiple visits (3-4 in the first 4 months of life)
  • Deworming and fecal examinations
  • Spay or neuter at approximately 5-6 months of age
  • Pet owner education about needs including diet, dental care, training, regular grooming needs, and more

Adult Pets

When your pet reaches adulthood, their care may be less individualized in favor of routine check-ups. These routine examinations will help us determine if anything about their health is out of the ordinary and needs special attention. Vaccines, however, will be personalized for each pet’s individual needs and lifestyle. Care for adult pets includes:

  • Regular physical examinations
  • Preventive care and testing for parasites and diseases
  • Preventive dental care
  • Vaccinations
  • Nutritional advice for weight management, if needed
  • Diagnostic testing, as recommended by a veterinarian, to help with early detection of diseases or health conditions
  • Specialized treatment for any identified health concerns

Senior Pets

Senior pets have the most individualized health care needs of all pet life stages. Our pets are classified as seniors at different ages, depending on their breed, size, and previous health conditions. For dogs, the senior years may begin anywhere around age 7 to age 8, while with cats, it is generally between ages 10 and 11. Our veterinarians can help you determine if your pet is a senior. We can examine your pet and consider their appropriate health care needs. For senior pets, care often includes:

  • Regular physical examinations
  • Diagnostic testing, including metabolic blood work screens
  • An increased emphasis on dental care
  • Early detection testing for conditions such as heart disease and kidney disease
  • Pain management treatment

Quality of Life

The end of your pet’s journey can be one of the most difficult times for a pet owner, and our team is here to support you. We can provide counseling for you about your pet’s health and your expectations for them, individualized conversations about your pet’s quality of life, and recommendations for each pet’s specific needs. We promise to be compassionate and understanding with you as you make important decisions for your pet and honor them during their last days.
